Chiefs Edge Magesi To Boost CAF Spot Push

Kaizer Chiefs secured a narrow 2-0 victory over Magesi in their Betway Premiership clash at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday evening, strengthening their push for a strong finish in the league standings this season.

The two goals of the match for Amakhosi were scored by youngsters, Wandile Duba in the first half, with Mfundo Vilakazi adding to the tally in the second half.

Following this victory, Chiefs have now moved from fifth place to fourth place with 36 points on the standings, marking their second consecutive win after defeating Durban City last week, which came after a disappointing run of three straight defeats.

Magesi, on the other hand, suffered their 11th loss of the season, with their last victory dating back to 18 October 2025 when they beat TS Galaxy 2-1 at home. Dikwena Tsa Meetse remain rooted in 16th place with just 14 points from 21 matches. It was Magesi’s 13th game without a win since then in all competitions. 

Amakhosi started the game on the front foot, creating several scoring opportunities within the first 20 minutes, but were unfortunate not to find the opening goal.

However, Chiefs maintained their impressive performance and eventually broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute.

Duba found the back of the net with a right-footed shot from the right side of the six-yard box into the top right corner, following a well-timed assist from Glody Lilepo.

On the stroke of half-time, Magesi had two chances to level matters, but Sifiso Luthuli and Mncedi Vandala were unlucky as they both missed the target. The first half then ended 1-0 in favour of Amakhosi.

In the second half, Amakhosi started the opening 25 minutes on a high note and came close to doubling their lead. Dillan Solomons combined well with Mfundo Vilakazi, who delivered a brilliant pass to Gastón Sirino in the centre of the box, but Sirino’s right-footed effort was blocked.

However, Chiefs then struggled for a period as Magesi took control of the game. Despite this, Amakhosi showed resilience and bounced back in the 84th minute when Vilakazi found the back of the net with a right-footed shot from the centre of the box.

Following the goal, Chiefs maintained their strong performance but were unfortunate not to add a third. The match eventually ended 2-0 in their favour.

Amakhosi will now take a break and return to action after the FIFA international break, where they are set to face Orbit College on 6 April.
