Chiefs Release Statement About Nabi

Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that head coach Nasreddine Nabi is not with the team in Angola for the first leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary-round match against Kabuscorp on Saturday.

Coach’s Absence and Potential Exit

In a statement, the club announced that Nabi’s absence is due to ongoing “internal” discussions between the coach and the club, suggesting a potential exit.

While Chiefs did not provide a reason for the talks, reports have surfaced claiming that Nabi was leaving the Soweto Giants due to his wife having been involved in a car accident before the season started.

Other reports suggest the coach does not possess the required CAF Pro License to sit on the bench for CAF club competitions. The club has not commented on these reports, stating that no further details will be shared at this stage.

“Kaizer Chiefs confirms that head coach Nasreddine Nabi is currently not with the team as discussions between the Club and the Coach remain ongoing,” said Chiefs in a statement.

“The matter is internal in nature and is being addressed through the appropriate processes.

“The club remains focused on ensuring stability and continuity for the players and supporters during this period. As this is an internal matter, no further details will be shared at this stage.

“We appreciate the continued support and understanding of our supporters and the broader football community. Any updates will be communicated through official club channels when appropriate.”

Nabi’s Tenure at Chiefs

Nabi was appointed at the beginning of last season and led the team to their first trophy in a decade by winning the Nedbank Cup final against arch-rivals Orlando Pirates.

This victory also secured their qualification for the Confederation Cup. During his time at the club, Nabi’s record stands at 12 wins, 14 losses, and 9 draws in 35 matches.
