Chiefs Sporting Director Welcomes Ighodaro

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jr hopes that new recruit Etiosa Ighodaro will create unforgettable memories with the club.

Chiefs finally signed the striker from Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday, after a video of the player’s transfer had leaked to the media weeks earlier.

Ighodaro’s departure from Sundowns was long expected. The player had previously stated that he was tired of being loaned out by the club and wished to be released. This sentiment was expressed after Sundowns loaned him to AmaZulu at the beginning of last season.

The 24-year-old Nigerian striker featured in 27 matches for AmaZulu across all competitions, scoring six goals. One of those goals was scored against Chiefs during the second match day of the season at Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Despite being a Sundowns player since July 2021, Ighodaro never made a senior appearance for the club. He was previously loaned to the University of Pretoria, Chippa United, and SuperSport United.

“We warmly welcome Etiosa into the Kaizer Chiefs family. We’re excited that he has joined our journey,” said Motaung Jr.

“His passion, work rate, and dedication will surely add to the team this season and beyond. We look forward to creating unforgettable moments together in the Gold & Black colors of the Glamour Boys. Here’s to new beginnings and the spirit of Amakhosi.”

Throughout his time in the PSL, Ighodaro has scored a total of 25 goals in 97 appearances.

Ighodaro is the eighth player to join Chiefs during this transfer window, alongside Nkanyiso Shinga, Ethan Chislett, Flavio Silva, Paseka Mako, Thabiso Monyane, Siphesihle Ndlovu, and Asanele Velebayi.
