City Confirms The Return Of Star Defender

Cape Town City has confirmed the return of Congolese defender Nathan Fasika Idumba to the club.

Fasika, who is under contract with City until 2026, was loaned out to Vålerenga in Norway with an option for the Norwegian club to make the move permanent. However, Vålerenga did not exercise this option, and Fasika has now returned to Cape Town City. This is good news for the club, which has struggled this season.

Fasika’s departure coincided with that of Brice Ambina, who Vålerenga did sign permanently. The club confirmed Ambina’s departure at the beginning of the season.

The 25-year-old Fasika joined City during the 2021/22 season. He was part of the team that lost the MTN8 final to Mamelodi Sundowns on penalties at the Moses Mabhida Stadium that season. In the same season, Cape Town City finished as runners-up to Sundowns in the league.

These events occurred under the guidance of coach Eric Tinkler, who has since been sacked and replaced by Muhsin Ertugral.

Currently 12th in the table with 11 points after 10 matches, City will kick off the 2024 season by hosting Kaizer Chiefs at DHL Stadium on Sunday at 17:45. It is highly unlikely that Fasika will feature in this match.
