City Part Ways With Coach After Playoff Failure

Cape Town City has confirmed the departure of head coach Jan Vreman after the club failed to secure a place in the Betway Premiership for next season.
City finished second in the Motsepe Foundation Championship last term to qualify for the PSL promotion and relegation playoffs. However, their mini-league campaign got off to a disastrous start with back-to-back defeats against Milford FC and Magesi FC. Though a crucial victory over Milford in their third match offered the club a temporary lifeline, their promotion hopes were officially dashed following a failure to defeat Magesi in their fourth and final fixture.
With Magesi and Milford set for a decisive final-day showdown on Saturday, City management decided to part ways with the Dutch tactician.
“The club would like to extend its sincere thanks and appreciation to Jan Vreman, who will depart his role as Head Coach at the end of the 25/26 season,” said City in a statement.
“Jan took charge during an important and difficult period for the club and led the team with great professionalism and dedication. Under his guidance, we finished second in the league, narrowly missing out on a magical immediate repromotion.
“Although we did not quite get over the line, Jan’s commitment to the club, the players, and the project was clear throughout.
“His selfless work, leadership, and humility have revived the club – setting us once again in the right direction for the future. The club would like to thank Jan sincerely for his efforts and contribution, and we wish him every success in the next chapter of his career.”
