City To Be Finally Handed The League Title

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has confirmed that they will officially hand over the Motsepe Foundation Championship title to Durban City on Tuesday.
City was unable to receive the trophy on the final day of their triumph after JDR Stars and Cape Town Spurs lodged protests, alleging that City’s player, Saziso Magawana, was ineligible. Magawana had been signed from Marumo Gallants during the last offseason.
The PSL initially withheld the trophy, stating that there were cases admitted to its Disciplinary Committee (DC) that needed to be resolved. However, the PSL subsequently dismissed these cases with costs. Spurs and JDR Stars then decided to take these matters to SAFA arbitration, where their appeals were also dismissed with costs.
However, Cape Town Spurs has now escalated the matter to the High Court, seeking to set aside the decision made by arbitrator Hilton Epstein, who ruled in the PSL’s favor during the SAFA arbitration.
But according to Sportswire, Spurs is fighting a losing battle, with indications from the PSL suggesting they have no valid case to prevent the trophy handover to Durban City.
A statement from the PSL read: “The Premier Soccer League (PSL), in partnership with the Motsepe Foundation, will host the official trophy handover ceremony to crown Durban City Football Club as the 2024/25 champions of the Motsepe Foundation Championship champions on Tuesday, 10 June 2025,” said the PSL statement.
“The ceremony will be broadcast LIVE on the SuperSport PSL Channel (202) from 17:00).”
