Dan – Even Man City Don’t Rely On Haaland’s Goals

Marumo Gallants coach Dan Malesela has expressed his frustration with his team’s lack of goalscoring ability, insisting that all players must contribute to the attack.
After a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Golden Arrows at Mpumalanga Stadium on Saturday, Malesela questioned the reliance on a single striker, drawing a comparison to Manchester City’s success despite not solely relying on Erling Haaland.
They started this campaign with 2-1 loss to Kaizer Chiefs the previous week and Malesela, who was appointed during the off season, was asked if he is desperate for the top man up front as Gabadinho Mhango started the Arrows game on the bench.
“You see, here is the difference. People always talk about the striker, the striker, but what about these people who are getting chances?” asked Malesela.
“Because it cannot be a striker only who has to score the goals. Even when Haaland who can score as many goals as he does, there are other people who are scoring goals as well.
“Of course, you minus Haaland’s goals for sure between the other players at Man City, there is a whole lot of goals.
“Everybody must trouble themselves to score goals.”
Gallants, who are currently second from bottom in the league, will face a tough test against defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Stadium on Tuesday (17:30). Malesela acknowledged the team’s disappointing performances but emphasized that the results do not accurately reflect their true potential.
“These results, they disappoint me,” added Malesela, who is in third stint with Gallants.
“Because it is not a reflection of what we do. Like I said, anybody who is sitting somewhere in the stands will be saying ‘Ah, Marumo, there goes Dan again’ – this is not a true reflection of what we are doing here.
“This is very disappointing.”
