Kaizer Chiefs striker Ashley Du Preez has stepped into the spotlight once again, offering sage advice to the promising young players selected for the PSL All-Star team.

This illustrious squad will face Carling Knockout Cup champions Magesi FC at Orlando Stadium on Saturday, in a match that promises to showcase the finest talent from South African football.

For Du Preez, this is a return to familiar ground. Making the All-Star team for the second consecutive year, he arrives with both confidence and a purpose beyond personal glory. 

Last year, it took him just 12 minutes to find the back of the net—a feat that underscored his status as one of the league’s most electrifying forwards. This year, he shares the field with rising stars such as Aden McCarthy, Jabulani Mokone, Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Asekho Tiwani, Naledi Hlongwane, and Vincent Mkoena, all standout performers from the DStv Diski Challenge.

“My advice [that] I can give to the younger players is, I think it’s a huge opportunity for them to showcase their talent,” advised the striker. “If you want to be in the first team in your club, it’s an opportunity for you to express yourself, an opportunity for you to go out there and enjoy the competition. It’s a good opportunity for the youngsters to show what they can do and to be in the first team.”

While Du Preez’s primary focus remains on inspiring and guiding the youngsters, he also sees this as a chance to refine his own game. Chiefs are battling for consistency in their domestic campaign, and the striker is determined to return with a sharpened edge.

“I am happy that it’s my second time,” he shared with palpable pride. “I knew I would win the first time. For me it’s to be there for the younger players, to encourage them, to advise them. For me to be back is another opportunity to showcase my talents.”

Though he didn’t secure a place in the fan-voted starting XI, Du Preez is poised to make his presence felt from the bench. Whether as a game-changing substitute or a vocal supporter, his influence on and off the pitch is undeniable.
