Durban City Confirm Hunt Departure

Durban City has confirmed that the club has parted ways with coach Gavin Hunt after reaching an agreement on a mutual separation.

This publication was informed that Hunt was relieved of his duties on Monday morning.

Pitso Dladla, who served as Hunt’s assistant coach, will take over in an interim capacity and will lead the team against Orbit College in their Betway Premiership match at Olympia Park Stadium on Wednesday.

Hunt was dismissed after reportedly clashing with players, which ultimately led to him losing the dressing room.

The former Kaizer Chiefs coach appeared visibly unhappy after City’s 2-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, giving short, terse answers in his post-match interview.

That match proved to be his final outing in charge. Hunt had been appointed during the off-season after City earned promotion last campaign.

City’s statement added: “The club will now commence a thorough process to identify and appoint a permanent head coach.”

The four-time PSL league title winner oversaw 16 matches in all competitions, winning six, losing six and drawing four.

He leaves City in a relatively stable position — eighth on the Betway Premiership table with 19 points from 14 matches.
