FIFA – PSL Clubs Spent Close To R120M On Transfers

FIFA has confirmed that Premier Soccer League clubs spent R118,877,248.00 ($6.64 million) on incoming players during the ongoing transfer window, with the possibility of further spending as the window closes.
The PSL also received R52,699,206.00 ($2.94 million) for outgoing players, with 27 players leaving the country and 23 arriving.
Mamelodi Sundowns reportedly made a significant investment by signing Brazilian attacker Arthur Sales from Lommel SK in Belgium for $3.20 million (R57,379,840.00).
Sundowns also acquired Iqraam Rayners, Kobamelo Kodisang, Kegan Johannes, and Asekho Tiwani with undisclosed fees.
Orlando Pirates are said to have paid R10,063,105.80 ($561,000) for Gilberto from Angolan side Petro Luanda.
Kaizer Chiefs are rumored to have spent $500,000 (R8,970,550) on defender Rushwin Dortlely from Cape Town Spurs and $275,000 (R4,933,307.50) on TS Galaxy goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari.
“The number of transfers reached a new record high, with more than 12,000 transfers in men’s and women’s professional football combined during the 2024 mid-year transfer window,” FIFA said in its global expenditure statement.
“Total spending in USD on international transfer fees in men’s professional football during the 2024 mid-year transfer window was the second-highest ever.”
“International transfers in men’s professional football during the 2024 mid-year transfer window increased by 4.8% compared to the same period last year.”
“Total spending in USD on international transfer fees in women’s professional football during the 2024 mid-year transfer window was more than twice the amount of the same period last year.”
“International transfers in women’s professional football during the 2024 mid-year transfer window increased by 31.8% compared to the same period last year.”

While South Africa has spent R118,877,248.00 on incoming transfers, the total may increase as the PSL transfer window closes on 20 September. Stellenbosch coach Steve Barker confirmed that his club is considering signing two more players following the more departures of Antonio van Wyk and Anicet Oura.
