Hunt Hunting To Bring Sundowns Down

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt says Mamelodi Sundowns is a top side with a lot of quality players but for Amatsatsantsa to aim to win the game, they will need to defend well and be clinical in front of goals.

Hunt’s side will face Sundowns in the Tshwane Derby at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Wednesday (19:30).

The Tshwane giants, who lost their previous game to AmaZulu this past weekend, are currently lying 11th in the standings with 16 points from 15 matches, while Sundowns are leaders in the Betway Premiership table with 36 points after 13 matches.

Miguel Cardoso’s side comes to this game having thumped Golden Arrows 4-0 at the same venue this past weekend.

“We are playing against people that their spirit is so big and we used to be close on them even though they used to have quality players, but the spirit was the same,” Hunt said.

“We know what we are up against and we have to defend well. Hope we’ll get the opportunities like against AmaZulu and we have to be clinical so that we can do well.”

SuperSport suffered a blow at the beginning of the season as their three key players Grant Margeman, Bradley Grobler, and Thulani Hlatshwayo got injuries. The former Kaizer Chiefs coach provided an update about the injuries of this trio and even said that they are struggling just because they don’t have their key players. They patched up the midfield department by signing Lebohang Maboe on loan from Sundowns a couple of days ago.

However, Hunt will not count on Maboe because of the loan clause inserted in his contract.

“Grant [Margeman] won’t play this year, it’s nine months injury. As for [Bradley] Grobler is out for another six weeks, and could be out until the end of the season and Tyson [Hlatshwayo] is another one,” said the most successful coach currently in the PSL with four league titles.

“We’ve missed these guys from the beginning of the season and it’s been a huge blow and that’s the reason I think we are not scoring.”

Grobler has played six games in all competitions this and managed to score at least two goals, while Margeman played just only one game in the quarterfinal of the MTN 8 against Orlando Pirates. The former Pirates defend Hlatshwayo played at nine games in all competitions this season.
