Hunt: Morris Was Walking On The Street
SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt praised the impact of striker Tashreeq Morris, revealing that he signed him while he was essentially unemployed.
Morris scored the lone goal in SuperSport’s victory over Kaizer Chiefs at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday. In the 44th minute, a well-placed cross found Morris in the box, and he powerfully placed the ball into the top corner.
Morris joined SuperSport on a free transfer after being released by Sekhukhune United at the end of last season. Hunt was looking for a replacement for the long-term injured Bradley Grobler.
“He was just walking the streets, out of contract,” Hunt said on SuperSport TV after the game. “He trained for a week or two, but he’s far from fully fit. However, he’s been incredible in the games he’s played for us, especially considering our absence of Bradley.”
In addition to Grobler, Hunt is also without Grant Magerman. However, Siphesihle Ndlovu has stepped up admirably. Abubeker Nasir, who joined on loan from SuperSport, has been sidelined due to injury.
Hunt hopes to have some injured players back for their upcoming match against Golden Arrows at Mpumalanga Stadium on Wednesday.
“If we can get a few back in the side and back playing where we should play, we would have a chance,” said Hunt.
“But coming here just cuts our legs and we are on our stumps here. But we have got to do it and I’m proud of my players, proud of everybody and we have to move on.”
SuperSport’s victory moved them up to eighth place in the Betway Premiership with seven points from six matches.
