SuperSport Hands Chiefs A Revenge

SuperSport United have made a stunning revenge as they beat Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 in the Betway Premiership at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

Tashreeq Morris riffled home for SuperSport in the first half following a good flowing move on the right hand side.

This was a great revenge for SuperSport, who were hammered 4-0 by the same Chiefs last weekend in the Carling Knockout Round 16 at the same venue in Polokwane.

Gavin Hunt’s SuperSport appeared to be fitter in this game and blocked all the channels that Chiefs enjoyed last weekend, which left the former Chiefs coach crushing his face.

This was Chiefs second defeat in the league, having previously lost to Mamelodi Sundowns.

The Amakhosi made a single change to their starting lineup, with Edson Castillo replacing Yusuf Maart. Meanwhile, SuperSport made nine changes to their team that faced Orlando Pirates midweek.

Both teams started brightly, but Chiefs squandered several opportunities, particularly through Wandile Duba and Mduduzi Shabalala. The hosts were forced to make an early substitution when Castillo sustained an injury, with Maart returning to the field.

SuperSport gradually gained control of the game and took the lead in the 44th minute through a well-taken goal by Morris.

In the second half, Chiefs pushed forward in search of an equalizer but were unable to break down the SuperSport defense. Despite their efforts, the Amakhosi failed to score and suffered a disappointing defeat.

This result leaves Chiefs in 10th position in the Betway Premiership, whilst SuperSport climbed to ninth place.

Chiefs will hope to bounce back to end the two league games losing streak when they next face Magesi FC at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday, while SuperSport will take on Golden Arrows on the same day at Mpumalanga Stadium.
