AmaZulu’s new striker, Elmo Kambindu, acknowledges that his move to the club has raised eyebrows due to his modest scoring record in the PSL. However, he assures doubters that he will prove his worth.

Usuthu signed Kambindu a few days ago from Chippa United, where he scored only five goals in 45 matches since joining in the 2022/23 season.

Furthermore, Kambindu hasn’t scored a goal since May last year, a drought of eight months, in the Nedbank Cup semifinal against Orlando Pirates.

This has further raised questions about Usuthu’s technical team’s player profiling, as they have clearly stated their need for a proven goal-scorer, especially given the team’s reliance on attacking contributions this season.

“Doubts will be there, it’s a fact,” said Kambindu. 

“All I can say is, I don’t have to say much rather just show them what value I can add to this squad- the dedication, the hard work I will put in, and the goals as well. 

“So, eventually, the ones that don’t know me will get to know.”  

The 31-year-old is the eighth Namibian player to represent AmaZulu and the second in the current squad, alongside Riaan Hanamub, who has been impressive since joining from Chippa United two seasons ago.

Kambindu faced AmaZulu five times while at Chippa, losing three, drawing one, and winning one.

When asked about his assessment of the club, he observed, “They are a decent team with a decent squad. I’ve played against them twice, and they are a good team. In addition to a good squad, I will have to deliver.”

If all paperwork is finalized, Kambindu might make his debut when Usuthu hosts Steve Barker’s Stellenbosch in the Betway Premiership match at King Zwelithini Stadium on Thursday (19:30).
