Letlhaku Shines In A Victory Over Polokwane

Youngster Kutlwano Letlhaku scored twice as Mamelodi Sundowns kept the pace to Orlando Pirates by beating Polokwane City 2-0 in the Betway Premiership match at Loftus Stadium on Wednesday night.

Letlhaku was the star of the show, scoring both goals for the Brazilians. Sundowns, sporting a new white third kit, dominated the match despite making nine changes to the team that defeated Kaizer Chiefs in the Carling Knockout.

Key players like Ronwen Williams and Peter Shalulile were retained, while Brazilian striker Arthur Sales made his first league start for the club.

Letlhaku opened the scoring in the 26th minute, capitalizing on a well-timed assist from Sales. Sundowns continued to control the game, but couldn’t add to their lead before halftime.

Early in the second half, Letlhaku had another opportunity to score but his shot went wide. Polokwane also had a chance to equalize through Hlayisani Chauke, but his header missed the target.

Sundowns made a substitution in the 56th minute, bringing on Bolivian midfielder Erwin Saavedra for Siphelele Mkhulise, with the Bolivia international making his first appearance since January 2023.

Letlhaku secured his brace in the 69th minute, once again benefiting from a clever assist from Sales. The young striker’s impressive performance has solidified his place in the Sundowns squad. Sales robbed off Thabang Matuludi before setting Letlhaku to slot home to score his first brace in the senior team.

Polokwane attempted to mount a comeback but failed to create any clear-cut chances.

With this victory, Sundowns moved to 18 points after seven matches, three points behind log leaders Pirates. The Brazilians will now turn their attention to the Carling Knockout semi-final against Marumo Gallants at Dr Molemela Stadium on Sunday.
