Magesi Appoints da Gama As New Head Coach

Magesi FC has appointed former Orlando Pirates coach Owen da Gama as their new head coach.

Da Gama replaces Clinton Larsen, who resigned after the team suffered a 3-0 defeat to All Stars in the Carling Cup last weekend.

This loss marked Magesi’s fourth consecutive defeat since their impressive victory over Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout Cup final. Currently rooted at the bottom of the league table with only six points from nine matches, Magesi is in desperate need of a turnaround.

Following Larsen’s departure, Papi Zothwane was initially appointed as interim coach. However, the club has now opted for the more experienced da Gama.

“Owen da Gama has joined Magesi FC,” a Sportswire source confirmed.

Da Gama, whose coaching resume includes stints at Platinum Stars, Highlands Park, TS Galaxy, and Black Leopards, will take charge of the team immediately. He will work alongside the existing coaching staff, including fitness trainer Pedro Picarro and goalkeeper coach Fiston Kabwanga, who were appointed by Larsen.

Da Gama’s first match in charge will be a challenging encounter against his former club, Orlando Pirates, at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday at 15:30.
