Mashego Joins City On Loan From Sundowns

Sportswire can confirm that Durban City has officially secured the signing of Terence Mashego from Mamelodi Sundowns on a season-long loan.
This publication previously reported that City was in discussions with Sundowns about the possibility of Mashego’s move, as he currently has no future with the club.
Reason for the Move
Mashego faces stiff competition at left-back following the arrival of Fawaaz Basadien from Stellenbosch at the start of the season. This adds to the already strong competition from Aubrey Modiba, Divine Lunga, and teenager Asekho Tiwani.
With so much talent in his position, Mashego’s playing time has been limited, a point further highlighted by his recent selection for the Bafana Bafana squad for the ongoing African Nations Championship in East Africa.
Last season, the 27-year-old left-back made only 11 appearances across all competitions as Sundowns clinched their eighth consecutive league title. Mashego joined Sundowns from Cape Town City before the 2022/23 season. His current contract expires at the end of the season, and it’s highly likely he won’t be retained unless his situation changes.
Career at Sundowns and Future with Durban City
Since joining the club, Mashego has won three consecutive league titles and the African Football League, featuring in 45 matches across all competitions and scoring one goal.
Subject to all documentation being finalized, Mashego is expected to make his debut for Durban City when they host Siwelele at Chatsworth Stadium on Tuesday.
City, who were promoted from the Motsepe Foundation Championship at the end of last season, are currently sitting sixth in the Betway Premiership with eight points after five matches.
