Mdunyelwa: I’m Working Hard To get A Game Time
Mamelodi Sundowns defender Zuko Mdunyelwa says there’s a lot he needs to do for him to get a game time in the Tshwane giant, and when he gets a chance will make sure he performs very well.
Mdunyelwa, who was signed by Sundowns from Chippa United last year January, has played only two league games this season but under the former club coach Manqoba Mngqithi.
The 25-year-old also got a chance in the CAF Champions League against Mbabane Swallows. Since the Brazilians appointed Portuguese coach Miguel Cardoso, Mdunyelwa is yet to be featured in the matchday squad.
The former Chippa right-back says when he can get a chance he will grab it with both hands. “There’s a process, and there are things that I need to do [in order for me to get a chance],” Mdunyelwa said.
“The technical team is helping me to get back on my feet. I’m just waiting for my turn, and hopefully, when it comes I will grab it with both hands.” Mdunyelwa said.
Mdunyelwa was left behind in South Africa as South Africa jetted out to Congo for the Champions League match against AS Maniema Union at Stade des Martyrs on Saturday (15:00). This is despite Sundowns being without Bathusi Aubaas and Khuliso Mudau.
Sundowns currently sit second in Group B in the Champions League and on top in the Betway Premiership.
Mdunyelwa believes that the Brazilians will top the log in the Champions League, but as for the league, it’s still early because it is a marathon.
“It’s still early days in the Champions League, but I believe we will come up on top,” Mdunyelwa added.
“We promise to put our best forward, and we will take it from there. As for the league, it’s more like a marathon because it doesn’t matter whether you are on top.
“Even though we are on top, we want to be on top from now until the end of the season even though it will be not easy. But I believe that we will take it from one game at a time until the end of the season.”
