Mngqithi Provides An Update About Johannes’ Injury

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi has revealed that his defender Kegan Johannes is very close to recovering from his injury and could start full training by next week.

Johannes didn’t play the last games of last season at SuperSport United, having suffered a serious injury that required surgery for this young player.

The 23-year-old former captain of the U23 South African football national team joined Bafana Ba Style at the end of last season from SuperSport.

Unfortunately, this young player arrived at Sundowns with an injury he got during his time at Amatsatsantsa a Pitoli. This young player has missed all the games of Sundowns this season in all competitions. The good thing about this young player is that he is close to coming back to full training as revealed by his coach Manqoba Mngqithi.

“Kegan is very close, we are hoping for him to start full training,” Mngqithi said in a press conference after their 2-1 win against Royal AM at Loftus Stadium on Wednesday.

“Probably, let’s say next week [he can start full training] but he is very close. There are a lot of activities that have taken place, I think they have given him to the conditioning guys now and he is very close. He even played one friendly against Sekhukhune if I’m not mistaken. But unfortunately after that [things didn’t go well].”

Johannes has to work hard when he recovers from his injury because the Brazilians have many good and talented right-backs. The Tshwane-based team has Zuko Mdunyelwa, Thapelo Morena, and also Khuliso Mudau who scored a great goal against Thwihli Thwahla.

Meanwhile, Johannes’ club will visit Polokwane City at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday, with the Brazilians hoping to make it five out of five in the Betway Premiership.
