Msimango: Chiefs Trophy Drought “Painful”

Kaizer Chiefs defender Given Msimango expresses frustration at the club’s recent lack of success, particularly in comparison to rivals Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.
Speaking at a team activation event in Durban on Saturday, Msimango acknowledged that he joined Chiefs with the ambition of winning trophies and that the club’s recent struggles have been difficult to witness.
Chiefs, currently outside the top eight after a series of disappointing results, are set to face Chippa United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Sundowns and Pirates continue to dominate, vying for the league title and having recently achieved significant success. Pirates, in particular, have claimed the MTN8 trophy for a record third consecutive time.
“It does pain us as players to see the club not doing as well as it should be and competing at the level it should be competing at,” said Msimango.
“Like, I said, everything boils down to how professional you are as a player. You cannot involve feelings when you are talking about football, it is always about facts and the fact is we are not performing well at the moment and it is a fact that we are trying to change.
“As for how other teams are doing well, kudos to them – kudos to Sundowns who have been doing it for years.
“Right now, Pirates is doing well, it shows that you trust the process and people who are in charge of the leadership, supporting the coaches well and it shows with the trophies they have won.
“Congratulations to Pirates and for us it is to focus on the Kaizer Chiefs brand and our shortcomings. By God’s grace, we can turn things around.”
Msimango, who joined Chiefs from TS Galaxy at the beginning of the season, emphasized his desire for success at the club.
“For me {when I signed for the club} it was to be successful at Kaizer Chiefs,” said Msimango, who has only featured in four league matches this term.
“Success comes with trophies, comes with winning things and I feel I have let the team down and myself down.
“But the journey continues; still contracted to the club, I still have an opportunity to represent the team.
“So, my goal will never diminish because I failed a few times here and there.
“But I will continue working hard and try to turn things around for myself and my club.”
