Nabi Breaks His Silence About Petersen’s Red Card

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has opened up about the red card of his goalkeeper Brandon Petersen.

The former Bidvest Wits goalkeeper was given a straight red card in the 77th minute by Sikhumbuzo Gasa in their 3-1 victory against Stellenbosch in the Nedbank Cup quarterfinal on Saturday.

Peterson was not playing as he was on the bench and was talking with Bruce Bvuma on the line, that’s why he was given a red card. Nabi was left disappointed about that red card, saying Peterson did nothing wrong and didn’t know why the referee gave him a red card.

“About the red card, I don’t really know what happened because Brandon [Petersen] didn’t say anything, and he didn’t complain or talk to the referee,” Nabi said.

“He was talking to his goalkeeper teammate. He was as well doing warm-up because we thought that the goalkeeper [Bruce Bvuma] was injured.”

Following Chiefs’ victory against Stellies on Saturday, the Phefeni Glamour Boys advanced to the semi-final of this competition. Nabi’s side will face the winner between Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United.

If Sundowns can win that game, that will mean Sundowns have to face Amakhosi for the fourth time this season. They played twice in the league and one game in the Carling Knockout and they lost all these games.

Petersen will be available in the semi-final of the Nedbank Cup as he is set to miss the games against Cape Town City on Wednesday and also against the KwaZulu-Natal-based side Richards Bay on Sunday.

Four players of Amakhosi including Peterson have got red cards this season. Inacio Miguel was sent off against the Brazilians last year in the Carling Knockout, while Reeve Frosler got it against Richards Bay in the league. The former Sundowns attacker Gaston Sirino got it against SuperSport United in their 4-1 loss this year at FNB Stadium.
