Nabi Fires Back At Journalist’s Question On His Future

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nassredine Nabi didn’t mince words when responding to a journalist’s question about his future at the club after their 2-1 loss to Orlando Pirates in the Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

When asked why he thinks he’s still the right man to lead the team despite losing many games this season and the club’s ninth-place position, Nabi took umbrage with the question.

“Normally, I wouldn’t answer your question, but I will answer you,” Nabi said, emphasizing that he doesn’t think the journalist is the right person to decide his fate.

Nabi pointed out that his role and the process he’s working on are well-known, and immediate results shouldn’t be expected.

“I came here for the process, and we talked about this in the first press conference,” he added.

The former AS FAR coach expressed frustration with the line of questioning, suggesting that it was unprofessional. “If you ask me that, I think you are not professional,” Nabi said, while maintaining respect for the journalist.

Nabi emphasized his experience and knowledge in football, warning against provocation. “I’m not a young coach. I have a lot of experience, I know what I’m doing in football,” he said.

The coach encouraged the journalist to focus on tactical discussions and processes rather than questioning his position. “Talk with me tactically, talk with me about all processes,” Nabi suggested.

Despite the tense exchange, Nabi assured that he’s not nervous and respects the journalist’s profession.

“I respect you as I said. If you are a professional, you must respect me because I also respect your journalism job,” Nabi added.

The coach’s response highlights the pressure and scrutiny coaches face, particularly in high-stakes environments like the Soweto Derby.

With two league games and the Nedbank Cup final remaining, Nabi’s future may still be a topic of discussion. However, the coach remains focused on the process and the tasks at hand.

As Amakhosi prepare to face Sekhukhune United and Polokwane City in their final league games, Nabi’s experience and leadership will be crucial in determining the team’s trajectory.

The Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates on 10 May will also be a significant test, with Nabi likely to draw on all his expertise to guide his team to victory.
