Ncikazi Wary Of Durban City Threat

Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi has urged his side not to take Durban City lightly ahead of their clash at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

The Soweto Giants take on an inconsistent Durban City side, who will be hoping to get a scalp over the Sea Robbers in the first-ever meeting between the two sides in the Betway Premiership.

“The biggest danger will be to think Durban City is a new team. The coach is Gavin Hunt, we all know him, we know his traits, and how the teams reflect on how he wants his matches to be played. The stats are saying Durban City is the one team that is more physical, that has fouled the most in terms of the stats. It can only tell you one thing; they are a physical side,” Ncikazi told Orlando Pirates TV.

The Soweto giants will be hoping to build on their trip earlier this month, where they got a 1-0 win over Richards Bay FC in their Carling Knockout semi-final clash at Moses Mabhida.

This weekend’s visitors find themselves level on 25 points with Mamelodi Sundowns, with the latter having a slight advantage because of their goal difference to sit on top of the table, but maximum points for the side from Gauteng could further solidify their title charge.

A win for Pirates will see them go three points clear of Sundowns at the top of the Betway Premiership log standings.

“But we are going to Durban, we have to wrestle for three points in the last match of the year. Pirates must get points, we just want to continue with the momentum, although we know it will not be an easy match,” added the former Lamontville Golden Arrows coach.

Although it will be an away game for Abdeslam Ouaddou’s men, they will certainly be hoping their Durban-based supporters will come in their numbers, as they will, in most likelihood, dwarf those of the small support base of the side formerly known as Maritzburg United.
