Ngezana’s Side Earns Draw Against Boeteng’s LASK In Europe League Playoff

Siyabonga Ngezana’s club FCSB was held to a 1-1 draw in the first leg of the Europa League playoff against Jerome Boateng’s LASK.

FCSB secured a 1-1 draw against the Austrian side in the first leg, played at Raiffeisen Arena on Thursday. The Romanian team, previously known as Steaua Bucharest and UEFA Champions League winners in 1988, fought back from a deficit to salvage the draw.

LASK’s Adil Taoui opened the scoring in the 34th minute, but Raul Miculescu equalized for FCSB just before halftime. Despite having further opportunities to take the lead, FCSB was unable to capitalize.

FCSB dropped into the Europa League Playoffs after being eliminated from the UEFA Champions League qualification by Sparta Praha. LASK, sensing the danger, introduced former Bayern Munich defender Boateng late in the match. Boateng, a 2014 World Cup winner with Germany and two-time UEFA Champions League, joined LASK from Salernitana this season.

Ngezana, a former Kaizer Chiefs player, has been a solid performer for FCSB since joining the club last season. He played another full 90 minutes in this game.
