Official: SuperSport Sack Hunt

SuperSport United has officially confirmed the departure of Gavin Hunt.
Sportswire had reported that Hunt was leaving the club on Thursday, and this news was confirmed by the club on Friday morning.
Following Hunt’s departure, the club has announced that Andre Arendse will serve as caretaker coach, with Grant Johnson as his assistant.
“SuperSport United FC and Head Coach Gavin Hunt have reached a mutual agreement to part ways with immediate effect,” SuperSport stated.
“The board and management of the Club have expressed their appreciation to Hunt for the work he has done as Head Coach over many years. We remain convinced that Gavin still has much to contribute to South African and African football given his extensive knowledge and experience.
“We will always remain grateful for the impact he has had on the club and South African football. Andre Arendse will serve as an interim Head Coach with Goalkeeper Coach Grant Johnson as his assistant. We wish Coach Gavin well in his future endeavours.”
This marks the second time Arendse has been appointed caretaker coach at SuperSport. He previously held the position during the 2021/22 season after the departure of Kaitano Tembo. At the end of that season, SuperSport appointed Hunt, who returned to the club where he had previously won three league titles and a Nedbank Cup in his first stint.
During his second spell, SuperSport finished third in the 2022/23 season and seventh last season. Last month, Hunt became the first coach to manage 1,000 games in the PSL, although that match against Golden Arrows was abandoned due to load shedding. Hunt leaves the club second from the bottom of the Betway Premiership table, with 21 points from 21 matches.
