Pirates Secure Makhaula’s Future With New Deal

Orlando Pirates has taken a significant step in securing the future of their veteran midfielder, Makhehleni Makhaula, by extending his contract. 

The 35-year-old midfielder, who joined the Buccaneers from AmaZulu in January 2022, has proven to be a valuable asset to the team, and the club has recognized his contributions by offering him a new deal.

Makhaula’s journey with Pirates has been nothing short of remarkable. Despite initially struggling to get game time when he arrived, he has worked hard to prove himself and has become an integral part of the team. 

This season, he has played a crucial role in helping Pirates reach the semifinals of the CAF Champions League, where they narrowly lost to Egyptian giants Pyramids.

The midfielder’s impressive display this season has earned him a new one-year contract, which will likely be his last season with the club. 

The decision to offer Makhaula a new deal is a testament to his dedication, hard work, and commitment to the team. 

Since joining Pirates, Makhaula has helped the Buccaneers win two MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cups, cementing his legacy at the club.

Makhaula’s current contract was set to expire at the end of this season, but the club has moved quickly to secure his services for another year. 

The new deal will allow Makhaula to go out on a high note, and the club is confident that he will continue to make a significant contribution to the team.

Makhaula has featured in 83 matches in all competitions, including 44 this term, and scored two goals. 

According to AmaZulu coach Arthur Zwane, he said he is in with a shout for the PSL Midfielder of the Season.

“Makhaula as well, when you are talking about the midfielder of the season at Pirates,” said Zwane after AmaZulu drew with Pirates at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.
