Richards Bay Sign Kenyan Striker

Sportswire has learned that Richards Bay has finalized the signing of Kenyan striker Vincent Oburu.

While the move was initially expected to be completed during the January transfer window, missing documents caused a delay. With the necessary paperwork now in order, the Natal Rich Boyz have officially welcomed Oburu to the team.

The 27-year-old striker has reportedly signed a one-and-a-half-year contract, with an option for an extension. This move comes after a challenging period at Zesco United, where Oburu struggled to secure playing time.

Oburu joined Zesco United from Kenyan side AFC Leopards at the age of 24 but failed to meet expectations. He spent six months on loan at Napsa Stars last season and returned to Zesco United in August, only to find himself on the sidelines. At Richards Bay, he will join his fellow Kenyan, Ian Otieno.

Otieno, a goalkeeper, joined Richards Bay from Zesco United last season as a free agent. He has also played for Red Arrows in Zambia. In Kenya, Oburu played for Wazito FC and AFC Leopards, where he was considered one of East Africa’s most promising talents.

Oburu joins a Richards Bay side that has struggled offensively, scoring only nine goals and conceding 16 so far this season. But they have moved off the standings to lie 13th with 16 points after 17 matches.

Their current top scorer, Yanela Mbuthuma, has scored just three goals in 15 league appearances. Mbuthuma will be unavailable for the next two matches due to a red card he received in the win against Marumo Gallants earlier this month. It was his second red card this season.

He already missed the previous match they won against Polokwane City and will now also miss the upcoming away game against Stellenbosch and the home game against Chippa United.
