Royal AM Defender Returns After 5 Months Out
Royal AM captain Lesego Manganyi provides an update on preparations and expresses his hope for a return to action in the upcoming DStv Premiership derby against Golden Arrows on Saturday.
Manganyi, who last played for Royal AM in December 2023 due to injury, spoke about his extended absence: “It feels great to be back on the pitch after five or six weeks out. I’m gradually getting there, and I’m thankful to be contributing again.”
The 36-year-old defender briefly discussed his team’s preparations for the upcoming league match against Arrows, highlighting the benefit of the two-week break: “Our preparations are going well. We were off last week, and now we’re focused on the derby.”
Royal AM currently sits precariously close to the relegation zone. With 26 points, they occupy 13th place in the DStv Premiership, just two points ahead of 14th-placed Swallows and level on points with 12th-placed AmaZulu.
The Royal AM skipper emphasized the importance of points collection in the final stages of the competition for a team battling relegation: “It’s crucial for us because we’re near the bottom of the table. We need to collect points from every game, as all the remaining matches will be tough.”
Manganyi further acknowledged the challenge they face at Mpumalanga Stadium, known for being a successful venue for Golden Arrows: “It’s intimidating because it’s their stronghold. I believe they’ve won more games there than at any other stadium in KwaZulu-Natal, so it will be difficult for us.”
The club’s longest-serving member promised a victory for Royal AM fans, expressing his hope for a long-awaited return to action when Thwihli Thwahla takes on Arrows at Mpumalanga Stadium on Saturday (15:00 PM).
