Royal AM Still Absent As Sundowns, Chiefs Maintain Perfect Start In the Diski Challenge
Mamelodi Sundowns have maintained their perfect start to the 2024/25 DStv Diski Challenge, securing six points from six possible after a convincing 4-1 victory over Marumo Gallants at Solomon Mahlangu Stadium on Sunday.
Goals from Siyabonga Mabena, Ntando Nkosi, and a brace from Thulani Zandamela propelled Sundowns to the top of the standings.
Following their 3-0 win over Richards Bay in the opening round, Sundowns have showcased impressive attacking form, scoring seven goals and conceding just one in their first two matches. The team’s resurgence under returning coach David Notoane is evident, as they look to build on the success achieved under his predecessor, Sinethemba Badela.
Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates have struggled to find their rhythm, drawing their second consecutive match, this time against Cape Town City. Despite taking an early lead, Pirates were unable to hold on and eventually settled for a 2-2 draw.
Kaizer Chiefs, also seeking their first Diski Challenge title, secured a 2-1 victory over Chippa United to join Sundowns on six points. Ntandoyenkosi Nkosi equalized for Chiefs before Pheko Phago scored the winning goal.
Other notable results from the weekend include Sekhukhune United who crushed Golden Arrows 3-0 and defending champions Stellenbosch beat Richards Bay 2-1.
Polokwane City was not in action along with Royal AM, with the latter having no squad to play in the league and was also not involved in last weekend’s fixtures.
