Sebelebele Calls Pirates Move ‘Dream Come True’
New Orlando Pirates recruit, Kamogelo Sebelebele, has described joining the Soweto Giants as a dream come true.
Sebelebele is one of 14 players signed by Pirates during the off-season, having been captured from TS Galaxy. His move came after an impressive season for the Rockets, which earned him a call-up to South Africa’s COSAFA Cup squad. His performances during the competition earned him a spot in the Team of the Tournament, further highlighting his consistency.
By then, he had already drawn keen interest from a few suitors, with the Buccaneers eventually capturing his services. The versatile player revealed that his heart led him to Soweto.
“Obviously, Orlando Pirates is a big team,” he said. “Everyone wants to play for Orlando Pirates. One of the reasons I chose the club is because I grew up supporting Orlando Pirates.”
He joins a Pirates side that is used to winning, having secured the MTN8 three times in a row, with a potential for a fourth. Mamelodi Sundowns stand in their way in the two-legged semi-final to be played later this month.
It’s a massive step up for Sebelebele, as Pirates has also tried to challenge Sundowns for the Betway Premiership but lacked the consistency to win a string of games. It’s also a move to one of the continent’s biggest clubs, which comes with its own unique demands. Sebelebele is aware that things won’t be easy. He revealed that he is looking forward to the challenge that comes with the big change.
“I am looking forward to that challenge,” he said. “I know it won’t be easy. I have to push and focus on improving and helping the team.”
A big chance awaits Sebelebele, who has his sights set on Pirates’ next fixture. Pirates will begin the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season against Sekhukhune United at Orlando Stadium on Saturday at 17:30. Sebelebele has emphasized the importance of putting on another good performance in front of the passionate Bucs faithful.
“Every game is tough in this league, but obviously, Orlando Pirates is a big team, and we can’t afford to lose against any team in the league. They are coming to Orlando, so we have to win,” he said.
