Sekhukhune Confirms Seema’s Departure
Sekhukhune United have confirmed the departure of coach Lehlohonolo Seema with immediate effect.
Seema was initially suspended by the club following reports of a salary dispute.
For that he was placed on special leave and Macdonald Makhubedu took over as caretaker manager before the club released a statement of his departure.
“Sekhukhune United wishes announce the departure of head coach Lehlohonolo Seema,” said the club’s statement.
“The coach’s contract which is set to expire on 30 June 2024, will not be extended.
“The club would like to thank coach Seema for his dedication and hard work, during his time with the team and wish all the in his future endeavours.”
Sportswire was informed that Seema requested an immediate pay rise due to the club’s top-four position, which did not sit well with management who viewed it as disrespectful.
“Seema’s conduct was disrespectful towards Sekhukhune management,” claimed an anonymous source to Sportswire.
“His request for a raise was denied, leading to his leave. Frankly, he’s likely to be fired. This behavior was self-destructive, and the club is disappointed. Perhaps he needed better guidance from his agent.”
Appointed in November 2023 after Brandon Truter’s departure, Seema’s initial objective was to solidify the team’s top-four position – a task the team ended up achieving, as Sekhukhune was sitting fourth in the league table with 42 points after 28 matches at the time of his suspension.
Seema was in charge 23 matches across all competitions, recording nine wins, five losses, and nine draws.
