Sekhukhune Extends Contracts Of Veteran Stars

Sportswire has learned that veterans Linda Mntambo and Daniel Cardoso have extended their contracts with Sekhukhune United.
Mntambo, the club captain, was a crucial player for Sekhukhune last season. He scored six goals in 25 matches across all competitions, helping the team finish fourth in the Betway Premiership. The 36-year-old joined the club in July 2022 as a free agent after being released by Orlando Pirates. Since his arrival, Mntambo has played in 55 matches in all competitions, netting 13 goals and providing seven assists.
Cardoso, also 36, joined Sekhukhune at the same time as Mntambo after being released by Kaizer Chiefs. The former Free State Stars defender appeared in 25 matches in all competitions last term, scoring one goal. In total, Cardoso has featured in 95 matches for Babina Noko across all competitions, scoring three goals.
The extensions of these players under coach Eric Tinkler, who took over last season, complement the recent signing of veteran striker Bradley Grobler from SuperSport United, a move Sportswire revealed on Friday.
While Grobler is joining and Mntambo and Cardoso are staying, the same can’t be said for Pogiso Mahlangu.
Sportswire has been informed that Mahlangu has been released by the club, along with Lindo Mtshali, who has since found a new home with KwaZulu-Natal club Richards Bay. Mahlangu, 33, who joined Sekhukhune in 2022, leaves the club having featured in 59 matches in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
