Shalulile: Sundowns Desperate To Rewrite Champions League Glory

Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Peter Shalulile has emphasized the team’s determination to “put their best foot forward” and secure victory in the highly coveted CAF Champions League.
Amasandawana, who last lifted the prestigious trophy in 2016 under Pitso Mosimane, are aiming to repeat their success under the guidance of Miguel Cardoso.
Notably, Cardoso led Espérance Sportive de Tunis to victory against Sundowns in last season’s semi-finals, adding an intriguing layer to this year’s campaign.
Shalulile, currently chasing Siyabonga Nomvethe’s all-time PSL goal-scoring record (129), with just three goals remaining, expressed his unwavering belief in the team’s chances.
“I think this time we need to do it with God. I guess leave all things to God’s hands because I believe that on other days we never did that, and that’s what we’re doing now, and I think that there’s nothing to hide,” said Shalulile, who scored the crucial first-leg goal in the quarter finals against Esperance at Loftus Stadium on Tuesday.
“We all want to be champions in South Africa; we all want to win, so we’ll do our best, we’ll try, we’ll keep on believing.”
The 33-year-old credited coach Cardoso for bringing invaluable experience and insider knowledge about their opponents.
“It’s still the same mentality. He brought in more experience because he’s a good coach,” he said.
“He told us everything about Esperance because he coached them, and it’s all about the belief and the focus of going into the game knowing that we should stick to the game plan that he has given us and stuck on it, and that’s why we got the results.”
Sundowns traveled to Tunisia on Sunday to face Espérance Sportive de Tunis in the crucial second-leg match at Stade Olympique Hammadi Agrebi on Tuesday. The team and its fans are hoping for a positive result to advance further in the Champions League.
