Stellies Will Continue To Chase Butsaka’s Signature

Stellenbosch FC will continue their pursuit of Cape Town Spurs captain Chumani Butsaka after an initial offer was rejected as insufficient.
Sportswire reported last weekend that Spurs turned down Stellenbosch’s bid for Butsaka as they aim to retain key players following last season’s relegation.
After Stellenbosch’s impressive 3-0 victory over Eswatini’s Nsingizini Hotspurs in the CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round first leg at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, coach Steve Barker was asked about the status of the Butsaka negotiations. He declined to comment on specifics, citing the player’s current contract with another club.
“In terms of that, look, the window is still open,” said Barker in Durban.
“The window is not closed and losing players like we have; we have to strengthen and which we will.
“We have targets that we are working on and hopefully we can get some of them over the line.”
Barker lost key players Deano Van Rooyen, the former captain, to Orlando Pirates, while Iqraam Rayners joined Mamelodi Sundowns. The former AmaZulu coach emphasized the need to replace these influential players who contributed significantly to the team’s third-place finish in the previous season.
“It would be unwise not to replace them,” Barker stated. “We’ve lost a quality right-back in Van Rooyen, and we’re thin in that position. It’s crucial to find a replacement. Kyle Jurgens is currently filling in at right-back, but his natural position is central midfield. Ideally, we want him to compete with Sihle Ndulu for that holding midfield role, making right-back a priority. Replacing Iqraam is also essential.”
