Official: SuperSport And Hunt Add Three New Signings

SuperSport United has officially confirmed the signing of three new players, including Keanin Ayer on a two-year deal with an option to extend.

Ayer’s interest in joining Gavin Hunt’s side was revealed by Sportswire several weeks ago.

The club has also secured the services of Broklyn Poggenpoel on a one-year contract with a two-year extension option from Chippa United. In addition, former Moroka Swallows goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa has signed a one-year deal with SuperSport, which includes an option to renew.

Keenan joins Matsatsantsa as a free agent after stints with Naestved (Denmark), Sandefjord (Norway), and Varberg (Sweden). The Johannesburg-born player boasts over 85 appearances during his six-year international career and is expected to be a key midfielder for United.

The 24-year-old Poggenpoel made 30 appearances in his two-year tenure at Chippa United. Thakasani, with over 60 PSL caps, returns to SuperSport after a spell at Bidvest Wits, where he won the MTN8 under coach Gavin Hunt in the 2017/18 season.

It has been a busy transfer window for SuperSport and coach Hunt, with the acquisition of Vincent Pule from Orlando Pirates, Pogiso Sanoka from TS Galaxy, Ricardo Goss on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, and Nyiko Mobbie from Sundowns via Sekhukhune United.

The new season kicks off for SuperSport with an MTN8 quarter-final clash against Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium on Saturday. Their last Wafa Wafa Cup triumph came in 2019/20 under Kaitano Tembo at the same venue.
