Tinkler Exits Babina Noko

Sekhukhune United has confirmed the departure of Eric Tinkler as head coach.

Tinkler had already missed the club’s previous match against Stellenbosch following a series of unsatisfactory performances, despite the Limpopo side’s significant investment in player recruitment. Reports indicated that the club had been negotiating an exit package with him.

His absence did little to halt the team’s struggles, as Sekhukhune United suffered a 3–1 defeat to Gavin Hunt’s side over the weekend.

Paulus Masehe, Tinkler’s assistant, took charge of that match and will continue in the role on an interim basis until the end of the season.

Tinkler, who spent 13 months at the club after replacing Lehlohonolo Seema, oversaw 38 matches across all competitions, recording 16 wins, 10 losses and 12 draws.

“Sekhukhune United Football Club confirms that it has reached a mutual agreement with head coach Mr Eric Tinkler to part ways with immediate effect,” read a club statement.

“Mr Tinkler departs the Babina Noko family after 13 months in charge, during which he contributed to the club’s ongoing development and competitive progress.

“The club expresses its sincere appreciation for his professionalism and commitment during his tenure.

“Mr Paulus Masehe will assume the role of head coach on an interim basis until further notice.”

Since the resumption of the season following the Africa Cup of Nations, Sekhukhune—who have ambitions of qualifying for CAF interclub competition—have managed just five wins in 16 matches, while also suffering five defeats.

They currently sit fifth on the table with 38 points from 25 matches.

Tinkler becomes the second coach to lose his job on Thursday, following the dismissal of Adnan Beganovic by TS Galaxy.

The 1996 AFCON winner with Bafana Bafana has already been linked with a potential move to Durban City.
