Vilakazi Addresses Talks Of Replacing Pablo Martin At AmaZulu
AmaZulu DStv Diski Challenge coach Vusi Vilakazi has responded to rumors suggesting he is a potential successor to the first-team head coach Pablo Franco Martin.
While Vilakazi harbors ambitions of returning to the PSL as a head coach, he clarified that his current focus is on leading the DDC team.
Amidst persistent speculation about the future of AmaZulu’s first-team coach Martin, Vilakazi acknowledged the freedom of speech that allows people to express their opinions. However, he emphasized that his role is with the DDC team.
Sportswire sources has revealed that Usuthu coach Martin is under pressure this coming season after Usuthu failed to finish in the top eight last term, which for the second time on the trot.
That won’t be acceptable in the coming season and the coach is rumoured to have been handed five opening matches in the Betway Premiership to convince the club bosses or else head will roll.
Martin appeared to be unsettled when speaking to the media a few days ago when the club called journalists on Friday where he was handed a new Mitsubishi car.
“No, people have freedom of speech and they can say whatever they wish to say,” said Vilakazi.
“You can’t faulter them, they see things their own way. So, I am a coach that was hired for the DDC and I’m here for DDC.
“But I wouldn’t dwell on that (AmaZulu heaad coach in waiting), but what I’m saying the project that I’m in right now is for DDC. So, obviously one is ambitious that you want to go somewhere and I might be back in the PSL and maybe not here, I don’t know.”
Vilakazi was roped in by Usuthu after he was bizarrely fired by Richards Bay who he saved their PSL status at the end of last season via the PSL promotion and relegation playoffs.
However, Vilakazi’s future was left in air after Phakwe Group CEO Thabiso Tenyane said Bay will appoint the new coach before the start and Rulani Mokwena was the one he was keen to rope in but it was not possible due to his departing contract agreement with Mamelodi Sundowns that he signed. The Natal Rich Boyz have since appointed Brandon Truter as Vilakazi’s replacement.
