Wits Maintains Top Spot In Varsity Football 2025
The second round of the 2025 Men’s Varsity Football took place on Thursday, with three victories and a total of four goals scored.
Wits University continued their impressive form, beating Durban University of Technology 2-0 at home to remain top of the table with six points. DUT, yet to secure a point, sits seventh.
In other matches, North-West University edged Central University of Technology 1-0 at home, leaving CUT at the bottom of the log. NWU now sits second with four points.
University of Johannesburg bounced back from a draw last week, securing a 1-0 win over the University of Free State. UJ is now third with four points, while UFS sits sixth with one point.
The day’s final match was a highly anticipated Pretoria Derby between the University of Pretoria and Tshwane University of Technology, which ended in a 0-0 draw. UP-Tuks are fifth with two points, while TUT sits fourth with four points.
The competition will resume next Thursday with round three. The highly anticipated match between log leaders Wits and UJ will take place at UJ Soweto Stadium, marking a thrilling Johannesburg Derby.
DUT will look to secure their first victory against UFS at Harry Gwala Stadium, while UFS will also aim to claim their first win. TUT will travel to face struggling CUT, and NWU will host UP-Tuks in Mahikeng.
