Zwane To Be Sidelined For Two Months

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Miguel Cardoso revealed that captain Themba Zwane will be out for approximately two months after suffering an injury in their MTN8 semifinal match against Orlando Pirates on Saturday.

Zwane, who played only 14 minutes in the 1-1 draw against the Buccaneers, was not available for Sundowns’ Betway Premiership 2-0 win against Magesi at Seshego Stadium on Wednesday, with Jayden Adams filling in at his position.

The 35-year-old has had a tough time with injuries, having suffered an Achilles tear that required reparative surgery in October last year while on national team duty against Congo.

The Bafana Bafana vice-captain missed several games for Sundowns and Bafana Bafana, playing only seven league games for the Brazilians during the previous season.

Zwane recovered from his injury in April this year, but his injury woes are far from over.

“Unfortunately, Themba will probably be out for maybe around two months,” Cardoso said.

“But I believe he will come back stronger, and we expect him to come back as quickly as possible.

“Since the moment he got an injury, the club has done everything for him to recover, and we hope he will come back soon.”

The Portuguese mentor emphasized that all players are part of the club, whether they are fit or not, and that the team will work together to compensate for Zwane’s absence.

“All players are part of the club, whether they are not 100% fit, because we suffer from everyone’s problems. But he will come back again, and soon he will be on the pitch as well.”

The former Esperance Sportive de Tunis coach added that the Brazilians will rise to the challenge and ensure that they perform at their best despite Zwane’s absence.

“We will rise with the others so that they can be on the height of the missing person,” he said.
