Ouaddou Responds To Mofokeng Transfer Rumors

Orlando Pirates coach Abdelsam Ouaddou says he was not focused on the talks that his star player Relebohile Mofokeng is reportedly wanted by MLS side Minnesota United in America.

News broke in America that Minnesota, who already have a South African international in their roster – Bongokuhle Hlongwane, have put up an offer of $2 million, which is equivalent of just over R35 million in today’s exchange rate.

While this might have destabilize the youngster, Ouaddu selected him in the starting line-up as they beat Stellenbosch 1-0 at Orlando Stadium on Wednesday night.

When he was asked about Mofokeng’s state of mind following the news that Minnesota have tabled an offer, Ouaddou admitted that he didn’t know anything, but he was too focused on the game.

“Today, I was only focused really on the game of Stellenbosch. I didn’t have time to even watch, or to look or read from the media,” said Ouaddou after the game.

“What I know is that Rele is with us and today (Wednesday) he did well. It means he is with us, and I hope he will be with us.”

The win over Stellenbosch has alleviated the pressure off coach Ouaddou and his players, after they lost the first two league matches of the season – against Sekhukhune United and Marumo Gallants, respectively.

Kamogelo Sebelebele’s venomous strike at Orlando Stadium has seen them fly from second bottom to 13th place in the Betway Premiership table with four points after three matches.

However, the game came at the cost as Deano van Rooyen picked a quad injury and had to be taken off in the first half.

Coach Ouaddou said it was too soon to give his injury update, but the player will be examined by the medical department.

“I still haven’t discussed it with our medical department,” said Ouaddou.

“I’m going to do it. I think we are going to have exam from him to be sure that he has. But at the moment, I cannot tell you more about the injury.”

Pirates now turn their attention to Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 second leg semi-final at Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.

Pirates is on the back foot as they conceded a goal in the first leg at Orlando Stadium this past weekend. As they have the deficit, they will come out flying like wild dogs to take the game to their illustrious rivals.
