AmaZulu Mourns The Loss Of Legendary Hero

AmaZulu is mourning the loss of one of its most iconic players, Ephraim Mwale, who passed away on Monday following a hernia operation.

The 58-year-old left-winger, often compared to Liverpool and Manchester United legend John Barnes, joined Usuthu in the 1980s.

“Condolences to the family and friends of Ephraim Mwale,” AmaZulu said in a statement. “A legend may be gone, but his legacy remains forever etched in our hearts and history books.”

Mwale’s name is synonymous with AmaZulu’s history. In the 1992 Coca-Cola Cup final against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium, after After watching Simon Magagula and George Dearnaley scored to cancel out Amakhosi’s goal scored by Johannes Phadime, Mwale received a long pass from goalkeeper Shadrack Biemba that was flicked in his path by fellow striker Dearnaley. He superbly controlled the ball, cut inside, and unleashed a powerful shot that sealed the victory for Usuthu.

Sadly, that remains AmaZulu’s last major trophy win.

Sportswire extends its deepest condolences to Mwale’s family and that of AmaZulu during this difficult time.
