AmaZulu Retains Mothwa And Hanamub

Captain Veli Mothwa will continue with AmaZulu for next season.
According to Sportswire sources, Usuthu exercised the option to extend his contract, which was due to expire at the end of this month.
Defender Riaan Hanamub will also remain with the club. Usuthu had a similar option in his contract expiring this month, and they have chosen to activate it.
Interestingly, both players arrived from Chippa United, albeit at different times.
Mothwa joined after the 2020/21 season began and played a key role under coach Benni McCarthy. He helped the team achieve their highest-ever finish (second place) and qualify for the CAF Champions League in th following season.
The 33-year-old featured in 28 matches across all competitions last season, keeping 13 clean sheets while conceding 30 goals. However, he did lose his starting spot at times, with coach Pablo Franco Martin favoring Olwethu Mzimela, who recently received a call-up to the COSAFA Cup preliminary squad.
Hanamub, who joined at the start of the 2022/23 season, played in 34 matches across all competitions and provided three assists. He has been AmaZulu’s undisputed best left-back since his arrival and attracted interest from Orlando Pirates, who were thought to be ready to pounce on his expiring contract. However, AmaZulu secured his future.
Hanamub also played a crucial role for Namibia, helping them achieve their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations victory in January. They defeated Tunisia in the group stage and reached the round of 16 for the first time in their history before falling to Angola.

While Mothwa and Hanamub’s futures are settled, the club has also permanently acquired Ben Motshwari from Pirates. They are also nearing a deal with Hendrick Ekstein, another standout performer for Usuthu this past season.
Ramahlwe Mphahlele’s future is also expected to be resolved soon. Augustine Kwem, George Maluleka, and Veluyeke Zulu have already departed the club.
