Chicago Fire Confirm Dithejane Signing

As predicted, Chicago Fire have confirmed the signing of Puso Dithejane from TS Galaxy.

The highly rated attacker has won two PSL Player of the Month awards this season.

Earlier on Tuesday, Sportswire reported that the former Kaizer Chiefs graduate — who claimed the awards in August and again in the combined November/December period — was on his way to the United States.

Dithejane had attracted strong interest from Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire, who teased on their X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday that they were set to announce the signing of another South African. The club has now officially confirmed the move.

“In welcoming Puso to Chicago, we’re adding one of South Africa’s best young, attacking players to our team,” said Chicago Fire FC Director of Football and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter.

“His dynamic energy will add depth to our squad this season, while also setting the foundation for him to continue developing and strengthening the team for many seasons to come.”

Dithejane joins fellow South African Mbekezeli Mbokazi at Chicago Fire. Mbokazi was signed from Orlando Pirates last month in a deal reported to be worth over R50 million.

However, Mbokazi was unable to link up with the club immediately due to his involvement with Bafana Bafana at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. Following South Africa’s round-of-16 exit to Cameroon, Mbokazi is now set to travel to the United States to begin his new career, with Fire’s acquisition of Dithejane further strengthening their South African contingent.

The 21-year-old Dithejane joined TS Galaxy from Kaizer Chiefs in November 2023 and has since made 63 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing 13 assists.

In the current season, Dithejane has featured in 12 matches, registering four goals and four assists.
