Chiefs Announce Departure Of Johnson
Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed the departure of Cavin Johnson.
Johnson was brought in after the season had begun to lead the head of academy position, a role he rarely fulfilled. He was then elevated to caretaker coach in October following the departure of Molefi Ntseki. His task was to manage the team until the end of the season.
However, Johnson failed to achieve the intended goal of stabilizing the team. Chiefs finished 10th in the DStv Premiership, their worst performance in the PSL era.
Initial discussions suggested Johnson might return to his original academy role, but the club has opted to part ways with him.
“Kaizer Chiefs have agreed to an amicable parting of ways with head of Academy, Cavin Johnson,” the club said in a statement. “Johnson joined Kaizer Chiefs in September 2023. This departure is part of the ongoing restructuring process at the club. We thank Mr. Johnson for his contribution to Kaizer Chiefs and wish him well in his future endeavors.”
Johnson oversaw 22 matches across all competitions, winning six, losing nine, and drawing seven.
With Johnson’s departure, Chiefs is set to announce Nasreddine Nabi in the coming weeks. However, Nabi’s arrival will be delayed due to his involvement in Throne Cup final between FAR Rabat and Raja Casablanca on Monday night.
In the interim, Nabi’s assistant coach, Fernando Da Cruz, is currently assessing the squad after being recommended to join the technical team.
