Chippa Bolsters Midfield With Jali Signing

Chippa United has secured the services of experienced midfielder Andile Jali. The 34-year-old joins the Chilli Boys after a short stint with Moroka Swallows last season.
Jali’s departure from Swallows stemmed from a financial dispute. The club, now defunct, faced financial difficulties that resulted in them requesting the PSL to cancel matches against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows.
Both teams were awarded walkover victories as a consequence. With unpaid wages mounting, Jali opted to leave the club in December 2023, following their goalless draw against Royal AM – his final appearance for Swallows.
Jali boasts a decorated career, starting with University of Pretoria before a successful spell at Orlando Pirates. During his time with the Buccaneers (2009/10 season onwards), he lifted six trophies, including two league titles. He also narrowly missed out on CAF Champions League glory in 2013, finishing as runners-up.
Seeking a new challenge, Jali moved to Belgian club KV Oostende in the second half of the 2013/14 season. He spent six seasons there, notably winning the domestic cup in the 2016/17 campaign.
Jali then returned to South Africa, joining Mamelodi Sundowns. He enjoyed a dominant five-year period, collecting an impressive haul of five league titles, two Nedbank Cups, one MTN8, and one Carling Knockout trophy. He even earned the PSL Midfielder of the Season award in the 2021/22 campaign.
However, the following season saw Jali fall out of favor with former coach Rulani Mokwena, who preferred Teboho Mokoena in central midfield. This ultimately led to his move to Swallows, which was cut short due to the club’s financial issues. Now, Jali brings his experience and winning pedigree to Chippa United.
