Durban City Takes A Cautious Approach To Gabuza

The newly reformed Durban City is taking its time to decide on the future of veteran striker Thami Gabuza.
Gabuza was involved when Durban City, formerly known as Maritzburg United, reached the KZN Premier’s Cup final last month. They lost on penalties to Roya AM, a club Gabuza had previously been linked with.
The former Orlando Pirates forward has been training with the club for several weeks, aiming to earn a contract.
“Nothing has been decided yet,” said Durban City chairman Farook Kadodia. “We are waiting for Gabuza to regain his fitness before making any decisions.”
The 37-year-old last played competitively in November 2023, when TS Galaxy lost to Moroka Swallows. Gabuza is seeking a new club after being released by Galaxy in January following a disappointing stint under coach Sead Ramovic.
The veteran striker joined Galaxy at the start of the previous season after being released by SuperSport United. Gabuza enjoyed a successful six-year spell at Pirates, winning the Nedbank Cup in 2014 and reaching multiple cup finals.
He joined SuperSport United in 2019 and made an immediate impact, winning the MTN8 in his first season against Highlands Park. Gabuza was named the man of the match in the final.
