Former SuperSport Forward Retires From Football
Former SuperSport United attacker Thabo Mnyamane has officially retired from football.
The 32-year-old has been without a club since leaving Marumo Gallants at the end of the 2022/23 season when the club was relegated.
“After careful and thoughtful consideration, I announce my retirement from football,” Mnyamane stated on social media.
Mnyamane’s career was mired by the persistent injuries. A significant setback occurred when he suffered an injury while scoring an equaliser for SuperSport United in the 80th minute of the 2017/18 MTN8 final against Cape Town City at the Moses Mabhida Stadium. He had only recently replaced Releilwe Letsholonyane for Eric Tinkler’s side, who eventually won the match on penalties.
The following season, he was part of the SuperSport team that lost another MTN8 final to Cape Town City, this time under Benni McCarthy’s management. Mnyamane also clinched two Nedbank Cup titles – one with SuperSport in 2016/17 and another with Gallants in 2020/21. Additionally, Mnyamane, who also played for University of Pretoria, was a member of the SuperSport team that reached the CAF Confederation Cup final in 2017, losing to TP Mazembe.
Throughout his career, Mnyamane made 195 appearances, scoring 42 goals and providing 15 assists.
Since retiring, Mnyamane has taken on a new role as a video analyst for the South Africa under-20 team, working alongside assistant coach Releilwe Letsholonyane under head coach Raymond Mdaka.
