Kanu Set To Be Named AmaZulu’s New Head Coach

Following the recent exit of Pablo Franco Martin, sources close to AmaZulu have revealed to Sportswire that Vusumuzi Vilakazi, the current coach of the club’s DStv Diski Challenge team, is poised to take the reins of the senior squad.

According to a well-placed source, Martin was given a three-match ultimatum to prove he could reverse the club’s downward spiral from last season.

However, he failed to deliver, losing to Polokwane City, Kaizer Chiefs, and Marumo Gallants in the opening matches, leaving AmaZulu rooted at the bottom of the table.

His inability to win these crucial fixtures ultimately sealed his fate on Monday night.

The club’s leadership reportedly maintained a composed stance during Martin’s struggles, but there was an acceptance that he was under immense pressure to improve on last season’s 11th-place finish.

As a contingency, AmaZulu appointed Vilakazi, who had recently earned his CAF B License, as head coach of their reserve team. His promotion now seems imminent, given the club’s need for a fresh approach at the helm.

Vilakazi is no stranger to challenging situations, having previously guided Richards Bay to safety in the relegation playoffs last season.

Now, he faces the task of reviving a floundering AmaZulu team, still early in the campaign but already in desperate need of a turnaround.

If Kanu is given the post, he will become the first coach to lead all three KZN premier division clubs in less than two years, having started last season with Golden Arrows, before taking over at the Natal Rich Boyz In December last year.
