Nabi: I Don’t Have All The Right Players

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi says he doesn’t have all the right players to implement his style of play at the club, suggesting the need to delve into the market to mold the squad further.
The Tunisian mentor has been tasked with restoring the glory days at Naturena as the club is enduring a nine-year trophy drought, with their last major silverware dating back to the 2014/15 season under Stuart Baxter.
Furthermore, the Soweto giants had their worst campaign in the PSL era following a 10th-place finish in the league last season, which subsequently saw them miss out on participating in the MTN8 for the new term. Nabi, entrusted with resurrecting Chiefs, has shed light on the type of football he would like to see his team play, stating that he wants the Glamour Boys to control matches like his previous clubs.
“My style of play is the protagonist game,” said Nabi. “All my teams before like ASFAR in Morocco last season and Yanga, step by step I made them play protagonist football.”
However, despite his desire to see Amakhosi on the front foot in their encounters, the Chiefs mentor believes that he doesn’t have all the players who can carry out the type of football that won him titles and a good reputation on the continent.
“When you are at a big club like Kaizer Chiefs you need to play protagonist football,” Nabi acknowledged.
“But I don’t have all the material for my model game, I have the vision and the model game, but I don’t have all the material.
“I have some materials but not all, but you have a responsibility to work for the results and build a model game, this is balance, and I need to manage this balance. Honestly, I’m not a modern-day coach, I’m a protagonist because my life is like that.”
The 59-year-old tactician lost his first match as Chiefs coach following a 2-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday, ending a run of back-to-back victories in their opening two Betway Premiership outings.
Amakhosi have dropped down to sixth place with six points on the log standings as they gear up to face SuperSport United later this month, before tackling top-flight rookies Magesi FC in what will be their only fixtures in October.
