League Games Of Pirates And Sundowns Postponed
Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns fans will be disappointed to learn that their teams’ opening matches of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season have been postponed due to CAF Champions League commitments.
Pirates’ scheduled match against Chippa United on 14 September has been rescheduled for 18 September to accommodate their first-leg encounter against Jwaneng Galaxy in Botswana. The second leg will take place on 20 September at Orlando Stadium.
Sundowns’ match against SuperSport United has also been postponed. Instead, the Brazilians will face Mbabane Swallows of Eswatini on 14 September at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
The Eswatini side opted to play the first leg in South Africa due to a CAF ban on using their home venues. Sundowns will then play SuperSport on Tuesday, 17 September and face Mbabane Swallows again on 20 September.
The match between Pirates and Galaxy holds added significance as the Botswana side eliminated Pirates from the CAF Champions League second preliminary last season, winning on penalties after a 1-1 draw.
